Ailo is a lively and adventurous 4-year-old, born on Leap Day in 2020. He lives with a severe neurological disorder called Canavan disease, but this diagnosis does not define who he is. Ailo is a mischievous and affectionate boy who loves speed and excitement. He has even gone down the waterslide at Pirbadet, his local swimming pool. This gave Ailo an enormous sense of accomplishment and joy, making his mother incredibly proud and emotional.
He loves music and often sings along. Ailo finds great joy in everyday sounds, such as sneezing and coughing, which he finds very funny. He communicates his needs effectively, often whining to signal when something is wrong or when he wants a change.
Canavan disease is a rare, progressive neurological disorder that affects Ailo’s daily life in many ways.
Through innovative solutions and proper adaptations, Ailo has the opportunity to participate and experience mastery on his own terms.
The goal is for Ailo to be independent in the water. This is not only a source of achievement and joy for him but also an opportunity to play with his siblings without needing an adult to hold him the entire time.
Krabat Pirat is a specially designed flotation aid for children with mobility challenges, providing freedom and safety in the water.
Krabat Pirat gives Ailo the opportunity to float freely in the pool despite his physical limitations. With Krabat Pirat, he can experience a whole new level of independence and mastery in the water. This freedom brings him not only joy and empowerment but also the chance to actively participate in family play on his own terms.
